Let’s not forget that sand is fundamentally glass anyway, a further grinding of beach glass to a much finer texture.
Essentially molten glass is poured into a mould made of damp sand. That’s it. That’s all sandcasting is.
Depending on what inclusions or patterning one uses in the mould, the results will take on that degree of relief.
The process of sand casting can be seen in this video which shows one of my pieces being cast.
