Let’s not forget that sand is fundamentally glass anyway, a further grinding of beach glass to a much finer texture.

Essentially molten glass is poured into a mould made of damp sand. That’s it. That’s all sandcasting is.

Depending on what inclusions or patterning one uses in the mould, the results will take on that degree of relief.
